Heu­te hat ICANN alle 1.930 Bewer­bun­gen für neue gene­ri­sche Top-Level-Domains ver­öf­fent­licht. Dar­un­ter zu fin­den sind auch 66 Bewer­bun­gen für 64 städ­ti­sche und regio­na­le Top-Level-Domains, die so genann­ten geoTLDs. Sie wur­den mit Unter­stüt­zung der jeweils zustän­di­gen Regie­rung bean­tragt. Von die­sen sind nur 11 Com­mu­ni­ty-basier­te Bewer­bun­gen. Für .BERLIN wur­de nur eine Bewer­bung ein­ge­reicht und auch kei­ne ähn­li­cher Bewerbungen.
