You are able to map and trace any domain name in mil­li­se­conds with its cor­re­spon­ding IPv6 address by your pho­to­gra­phic memo­ry and intui­ti­ve allo­ca­ti­on know­ledge; even under excep­tio­nal cir­cum­s­tances and at shif­ting time zones? You track the traf­fic on the Inter­net sin­ce your time at Kin­der­gar­ten? ICANN hat auf sei­nem gera­de zu Ende gegan­ge­nen 40. Mee­ting end­lich wie­der einen Zeit­plan ver­öf­fent­licht. Er sieht vor, dass nach abschlies­sen­den Bera­tun­gen und Stel­lung­nah­men der Regie­rungs­ver­tre­ter eine prä-fina­le Ver­si­on der Bewer­bungs­richt­li­ni­en am 15. April erschei­nen. Nach einer letzt­ma­li­gen 4‑wöchigen Kom­men­tie­rungs­pha­se sol­len dann letz­te Ände­run­gen berück­sich­tigt und die fina­le Ver­si­on am 30. Mai 2011 ver­öf­fent­licht wer­den. Pas­send zum gera­de statt­fin­den­den 40. Mee­ting der ICANN in San Fran­cis­co hat der nor­we­gi­sche Tele­kom­mu­ni­ka­ti­ons­re­gu­lie­rer (Samferd­sels­de­par­te­mentet) ein umfas­sen­des Stra­te­gie­pa­pier ver­öf­fent­licht, mit dem die Schaf­fung eige­ner regio­na­ler Top-Level-Domains wie z.B. einer .oslo Stadt­do­main ange­strebt wird.

Als Auf­takt zum 40. ICANN-Mee­ting in San Fra­cis­co luden am ver­gan­ge­nen Sonn­tag erneut DENIC und dot­BER­LIN zum tra­di­tio­nel­len „Deut­schen Abend” ein. Über 50 deutsch­spra­chi­ge Gäs­te, dar­un­ter ICANN-Direk­to­rin Eri­ka Mann, der ehe­ma­li­ge ICANN-Direk­tor Hagen Hultzsch, Regie­rungs­ver­tre­ter, Ver­tre­ter von Regis­tries, Regis­tra­ren und Inter­net­nut­zern sowie von Initia­ti­ven für neue gTLDs folg­ten der Ein­la­dung. Im Fokus der Gesprä­che stan­den die aktu­el­len The­men der ICANN-Kon­fe­renz, u.a. die Ein­füh­rung neu­er Top-Level-Domains.

dot­BER­LIN ist natür­lich auch wie­der in den für neue Top-Level-Domains (new gTLDs) rele­van­ten Mee­tings ver­tre­ten. Dies sind u.a. das Tref­fen der Regie­rungs­ver­tre­ter mit den ICANN-Direk­to­ren, zahl­rei­che Ses­si­ons über die neu­en TLDs und das Mee­ting der Betrei­ber jet­zi­ger gTLDs, bei dem wir einer der weni­gen zuge­las­se­nen Beob­ach­ter sind.

Das The­ma Top-Level-Domains wur­de auch in die­sem Jahr auf der IT-Mes­se CeBIT in Han­no­ver vor­ge­stellt. Am ver­gan­ge­nen Frei­tag nahm dot­BER­LIN-Geschäfts­füh­rer Dirk Kri­schenow­ski an einer Dis­kus­si­on zum The­ma „Die neu­en Top-Level-Domains kom­men” teil, die unter regem Inter­es­se der Mes­se­be­su­cher auf dem Ber­li­ner Gemein­schafts­stand in Hal­le 2 statt­fand. Dis­ku­tiert wur­de u.a. über die Ver­ga­be­stel­le ICANN, das Bewer­bungs­ver­fah­ren für .ber­lin und die Chan­cen, die mit einer Top-Level-Domain für das Stadt­mar­ke­ting ver­bun­den sind.
